“They say don’t conform to stereotypes, but the Black in me has been wired in”
MY KIND OF BLACK is a celebration of self-expression and authenticity – an exhibition that champions the vibrancy of young Black talent through film, rap and spoken word.
Curated by young creatives from The Spit Game UK – and speaking directly to young Black people – the exhibition centres on four original films created as part of their 12 month Just Futures residency at Science Gallery London.
Exploring a range of themes – education, consent, the ethics of humour, and conspiracy theories – the films offer a lens through which to experience the complexity of these contexts from a young Black person’s perspective.
Once you’ve watched the films and taken a look behind-the-scenes, step inside the Spit Game Studio and give voice to your own kind of creativity.
CONTENT INFORMATION
The films featured in the exhibition seek to raise awareness of topics in ways that may feel uncomfortable, and help people feel seen. They combine comedy and drama to create truth. You’ll discover how their films highlight the experiences and challenges young Black people face today living in London.
The films are rated 12 or 15, and feature sensitive content including depictions of racism, sexism, nudity and references to sexual harassment. Please check the age guidance before watching.
