Behind the hoardings...

If you've been in the London Bridge area this week you may well have spotted our rather striking new hoardings. Marking the next step in the Science Gallery London journey, the hoardings also feature architect's impressions of the gallery space plus a series of artworks from our current pre-opening season MOUTHY.

The installation of these hoardings represents an important milestone in our building project and it seems a fitting moment to give a progress report on Science Gallery London.

In December 2015 planning permission for Science Gallery London was granted and, since then, the previous Boland House tenants have moved out, with KCLSU relocated to fantastic new spaces, and the courtyard car park has closed. We formally celebrated the breaking of Science Gallery London ground with a collaborative Spit Crystal in April this year.

Boland House and Guy’s courtyard have now been secured as a building site, with Deconstruct appointed as our phase one building contractor. We are currently in the process of undertaking archaeological work and those of you who follow us on Instagram will have already seen some of our ‘behind the hoardings’ snapshots.

Deconstruct will continue the phase one works, to create the atrium space on the ground floor, the basement theatre and other structural requirements, until early 2017. Our phase two building contractor, who will lead on the fit-out, will be appointed at the end of 2016.

Good progress is being made and we are working towards our 2018 opening for Science Gallery London, with HOOKED recently announced as our first full exhibition. We will be running another pre-opening season after MOUTHY during 2017: watch this space for open call announcements.

Look out for more building updates in the coming months.
