AI MYTH-BUSTING
Delivered by Tiarna Lee & Jhanelle White (2023)
It started with a question: “Will the AI talk back?”
The effects of events of recent years on attitudes towards science cannot be understated. With a society growing increasingly distrustful of experts, coupled with a society where everyone thinks they are an expert, it is hard to separate the reason from the noise. There is no denying AI’s presence in our lives, and while the world seems to be shouting from the hills about all the good, the bad, and the ugly, when do we get the space to slow down and ask - what actually is AI?
Join King’s students Jhanelle and Tiarna for a trio of roundtable discussions dispelling all the wild, weird and wonderful questions we have about AI. The aim of the project is to foster safe spaces for having frank and open discussions about AI between AI experts and the general public. The hope is to support more people to develop a deeper understanding of what AI is, how it can be used, and the consequences of such use.

JHANELLE WHITE and TIARNA LEE are Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering PhD students respectively, and are passionate about making science more inclusive and accessible. Having met during their undergraduate degrees in the Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Engineering and Sciences at King’s, the series presented is the culmination of their collaborative efforts over the years to share their excitement for scientific innovation with the wider general community.
This project is part of Science Gallery London’s Creative Project Grants programme for King’s students and local 18 - 25s. Recipients receive funding, mentoring and training to develop projects that bring people together to explore big questions relating to social justice, identity, climate, health or technology.
